Playtime--Blythe Style!


 
This is my glamorous scientist daughter, and my granddog, Lilith. When MJ is not jet-setting around the globe teaching the latest in situ electron microscopy techniques to her fellow eggheads, she is awash....

 

...in dolls!

Doll collecting is her passion and has been since she was about 9 years old and began poring over back issues of The Doll Reader. Her latest fascination is with the Blythe dolls, and so for Christmas, I knitted her this little pink Blythe tunic dress:

I have never knit a doll sweater before so this was entirely experimental, but I realized I enjoyed making it so I'm hoping now to make and send her more outfits. I don't have a Blythe doll on which to fit the clothes, but as she's more or less the same size as the vintage Skipper dolls, I'm using one as my guide. I can see by the photo I will need to make shorter sleeves for Blythe than for Skipper, though.

Yesterday I puttered about with the leftover sweater scraps from the stuffed cat I just made for one of my granddaughters, and I came up with this swing coat. I've got it pinned shut for the moment because I was unable to unearth any snaps yesterday, and my hook-and-eye fastener proved inadequate.


As soon as I can track down the designer of the coat pattern, I'll share it here. I downloaded it free from the web some time ago but can't remember the site. The scarf-collar idea was my own addition.


 I don't have a lot of patience for fine details so this will be something I have to work on acquiring, but so far, so good. I can see that having a serger would be very useful for making doll clothes, to finish the seams in a manner to prevent fraying, but for now I'm winging it with my very basic sewing machine and hand-stitching. Hopefully I'll have more to show you soon.

 Life without Etsy...  I could get used to this!

    Her collection is neat! and I love Blythe I was wanting one really bad right before I started collecting squeaky toys..now I still want one but the squeaky toys usually take all my fun money and time..I love the doll clothes you made :)
