Let the Roadshows Begin: First Sheer Trash Foray of 2014

It was the first proper junking outing of the year yesterday, and I'm itching to show you the goodies I brought home.

 

Now stop that snickering!

Yeah, I know, I know! I've got way too much stuff as it is and my Etsy shops aren't even open right now. If I must collect, why can't I at least collect something that isn't patently ridiculous? Well, frankly, my dear, because that proper sort of stuff is B-O-R-I-N-G!I want things that are fun.

Hence, these toys...

 

I'm so delighted to have found these small treasures. A cute blue anthropomorphic coffee pot (made in England by Tanda Toys), two sweet handmade felt bunnies, the funkiest mod pink and painted plaster coin bank--I think it's a dog; a possibly-Strawberry shortcake family doll (but I think she's probably a knock-off) my happy stuffed printed rabbit lady with her carrot cookbook, and perhaps best of all, my stuffed fabric body doll with the plastic face and yarn hair. These ranged in price from 50 cents to $4, minus geezer discount. 

The funny thing is when I was a little girl I was given one of these plastic-faced yarn-haired dolls and I hated it. Frankly, I wasn't much of a doll player anyway, much preferring stuffed animals. But now I've come to admire this genre and I'm glad to have one of my own again at last. Her face coloring is so bright and fresh!

One of the best bargains of the day was this pair of gravel art pictures in excellent condition for $8.

These babies will definitely be staying with me! I love these tacky things.

I found some nice jewelry pieces, too. I've developed a penchant for figural brooches, and these were priced to sell. (Don't you love it when men sell jewelry? They nearly always figure it's not worth much and sell it cheap.) The metal pins are by Gerry's, the kitschy plastic telephone's manufacturer is anyone's guess. Isn't it great?

I also picked up this mystery utensil. I'm not sure what its intended use was, but somehow it fascinates me and I'm toying with an idea for a modern way to put it to good use. Was this just some sort of whisk, or was it for agitating soap in a tub of laundry, perhaps? Cost: $2.

Got this terrific Monkees book for 25 cents. Needs a bit of cleaning, but that's no big deal. Hey, hey, it's the Monkees! Why would I resist?

And of course I bought vintage fabric and yarn... I'm most excited about this silk yarn "Shanghai Shag". I got 5 full spools (100 yards each) and a partial spool for 59 cents each. The nubby beige yarn is synthetic, but good quality Bucilla for all that. I got 4  1-oz. skeins, also at 59 cents apiece. With vintage knitting patterns making such a comeback, these are true finds.

Okay, one more and I'll turn you loose. This kooky little fabric wall-hanging caught my eye and I think it will be a hit in Peppy's shop when I reopen sometime before Easter. There are some Etsy sellers who refuse to deal in anything vintage that might seem offensive to African Americans, but since I am just as happy to offer items that poke fun at caucasians, I don't see the problem in putting this out in the marketplace. I think it's charming, and if it will help raise funds for some little dog to get veterinary care or be adopted into a stable new home, why not? It makes me smile.
