Let us put by some hour of every day for holy things...

I will not doubt, though all my ships at sea
Come drifting home with broken masts and sails.
I will believe the Hand which never fails,
From seeming evil, worketh good for me.
And though I weep because those sails are tattered,
Still will I cry, while my best hopes lie shattered:
I trust in Thee.
--Ann Kimmel

Although the fig tree shall not blossom, neither shall fruit be in the vines, the labor of the olive shall fail and the fields shall yield no meat, the flock shall be cut off from the fold and there shall be no herd in the stalls, yet I will rejoice in the Lord, I will joy in the God of my salvation. A Visitor

We had an unexpected little visitor today... This is Bennie, my granddaughter. Her folks don't usually visit in the middle of the week, so this was a bonus.

It's fun to watch her when her parents carry her in the door.  She immediately starts craning over to scan the floor for the dogs.  (They have a mutual admiration society going.)  Even Lollia, usually so skittish, is fascinated by the baby and allows herself to receive Bennie's fumbling attentions.  Wickham isn't sure which he finds the most alluring--the baby, or her toys!

Last night I did some playing about with embossing powder and our trusty toaster.  I took some plain notecards and transformed them into shiny copper-colored Peppy-lookalike stationery! They have a neat raised texture and appearance--I was quite pleased they turned out so well. I'm thinking about putting some on the Etsy site to see if anyone is interested in them--though in this day of e-mail that may be a forlorn hope.  I love this stamp--it looks exactly like Peppy, right down to his good dog smile!

Speaking of Etsy, I found a fun site the other day.  The shop's name is DestashRetro, and it's loaded with wonderful ticky-tacky plastic gimcracks and gewgaws of the type I adore:  in other words, sheer trash!  I highly recommend it.

Not much else going on around here...  I have been at work digging out my sewing room and it's such a relief to be organized again--even if it doesn't last long!

  2. Vanessa, what would I do without you? I no longer feel like I'm just addressing cyberspace when I post something here!

I'm wondering how the dog crew will react when Benita gets mobile? She's almost-but-not-quite crawling. I have the feeling that may be daunting for them!

I'll check out the shop you recommended forthwith! The fun thing about vintage is I get to have a second childhood..:-)

Oh, and thanks for the snail mail encouragement. I think there must be a few of us "dinosaurs" around because last night I listed a partially used vintage writing pad on Peppy's site and it sold almost immediately. I'll get brave and list these cards this weekend.

  3. Aw
I bet when she starts walking the dogs will want to play with her :)

Awhile back there was a scratch at the door at 3am I opened the door and in came a pomeranian he ran over to Merrills water dish and got a drink Merrill saw him and got reaaally happy she thought we finally got her a puppy but then he wanted out and went back home.
Merrill stared out the window for him for days crying.
Shes a cat but she likes fluffy little puppies the best.

Ill keep an eye out for the cards :)

  4. Oh, how fun! I want a little pommer to come dropping in to drink out of my dogs' water dish!

Actually, back in the dark mists of time, shortly after I got married, I had a similar experience. My husband and I were living in a tiny, stiflingly hot Airstream trailer while we built our barn. One day it was sweltering and so I left the doors of the trailer open and went for a walk. When I came back, there was a strange, tiny dog asleep on our bed! He rolled over on his back and looked guilty, then dashed out the door. I felt like one of the Three Bears, only I was hoping "Goldilocks" would stay! I never saw that little dog again.
