Let us put by some hour of every day for holy things...

I will not doubt, though all my ships at sea
Come drifting home with broken masts and sails.
I will believe the Hand which never fails,
From seeming evil, worketh good for me.
And though I weep because those sails are tattered,
Still will I cry, while my best hopes lie shattered:
I trust in Thee.
--Ann Kimmel

Although the fig tree shall not blossom, neither shall fruit be in the vines, the labor of the olive shall fail and the fields shall yield no meat, the flock shall be cut off from the fold and there shall be no herd in the stalls, yet I will rejoice in the Lord, I will joy in the God of my salvation. Peppy's Appointment, and Friday Finds #2

I haven't been keeping up with Peppy's progress reports, and some of you lovely people have been so kind as to contact me through Etsy to see how he's doing.  Thank you!

Peppy saw the vet today for the first time since his surgery 2 1/2 weeks ago. I was a little nervous about taking him in because--to my shame--Peppy took me completely by surprise on Wednesday and ascended the stairs, looking for me in my sewing room.  He is NOT supposed to climb, run, or jump for several weeks yet, so I was truly horrified.  I couldn't believe he'd even attempted it, and I was angry with myself for not barricading the staircase earlier. It didn't occur to me I'd need to worry about it yet, but Pep wanted his Mom Person.  As he's been favoring his left leg again since the stair escapade, I was concerned he might have injured himself.

However, I should have known better, as Peppy's veterinarian is a very pleasant and understanding guy.  He was glad to see Pep again and spent several minutes checking out his knee action.

The good news is that Peppy's kneecaps are staying in place and the knees seem to be healing as they should.  He's still having some pain and I've been instructed to give him Metacam if needed.  The limping is par for the course during this lengthy healing process, and it's not unusual that it changes from day to day.  On the down side, Peppy's temperature was elevated, and so he had another injection of long-lasting antibiotics. We can't risk an infection involving his bones.

So, Peppy enjoyed a long morning of sitting in my lap and getting petted to his heart's content, and now he's back home and lying on his big cushion underneath the computer desk, which is how he has been spending most of his time during recuperation.

We only stopped at a couple of garage sales today, partly because I didn't want to wear out Peppy, and also because, being a holiday weekend, we just didn't see many sales.  However, I did come up with a couple or three goodies of note.

The first was this unusual Enesco tray, made in Japan:

I didn't even know Enesco made items like this--I thought they were pretty much ceramic figurines and maybe toys or Christmas decorations.  I'll try and track down more information.  At any rate, not a bad vintage item for $1.00.

A second sale yielded four original series "My Little Pony" toys, made in Hong Kong, and a 1983 Strawberry Shortcake doll.  I paid 50 cents apiece for these items:
Can anyone out there help me identify the individual pony characters?  My resident Brony isn't up on the original series.  They'll all need a good cleaning and I should try to make the doll a new mob cap.  I have fabric not unlike the original hat she would have worn when new.

I've been on a western / bandana fabric craze lately, helped along by some nice remnant finds at Goodwill and garage sales.  I like making favor bags.  There's something satisfying about making a pretty and useful item in a short amount of time.  It's very therapeutic, actually being able to finish something!

Here are some of the bags I've whipped out recently:

I have five or six more "country" and "western" fabrics yet to use, so if these interest you, check my Red Letter Day Bags shop on Etsy soon and you'll find them listed there.

I hope you all have a happy and safe Memorial Day weekend.  And before I close, I've got to show you the wonderful present my son-in-law gave me when he and my daughter were visiting last weekend.  I love it!
