Mimi is a timid girl who will need patience in getting her to come around.  She was a kennel dog who has never received proper socialization.  Once she has learned to trust you she is an absolute love and will thrive in a home where she can just hang out near to her people.  Right now she will spend time in my lap, but startles when some noise or something odd happens.  When we went to the Vet this week she was calm and accepting of attention without having that startle response whenever something new happened.  She is not a biter, just very afraid. 

When Mimi arrived here she had very severe eye infections.  The worst that I have ever seen, completely crusted over and dry to the point of being unable to blink.  The surface of her eyes appeared to actually be scabbed over.  We have her on many medications almost two weeks now and are just now are able to say with some confidence that we have saved her eyes.  We were nearly certain that at least one of them was beyond saving, but thankfully that does not appear to be the case.  We are unsure yet if she will have natural tear production or how her sight will be affected.  She may need continued treatment to keep her eyes moist.  Mimi will be micro chipped, spay and brought current on her vaccines once we are able to get completely rid of the eye infections, hopefully in the next couple of weeks.  I believe she has been house trained to the piddle pad and she has done great in the kennel with only one accident.  Mimi's placement fee is at our maximum because of the Vet care that she has required.  Her "Special Needs" may be the continued care of her eyes.  It is possible that she may require daily drops in her eyes for the rest of her life.  Mimi also only has a couple of teeth left in her mouth.  It isn't stopping her from enjoying her kibble, although there since there is nothing to hold her tongue in it hangs out most of the time.

The blog seems to have "gone to the dogs" lately, so I thought I'd change gears and share a project I'm working on. 

I started this purse about a week and half ago and made quick progress on it initially. I decided to experiment with a different lining style this time, trying to make an extra section inside, but that hasn't turned out so well, so I probably won't try to sell this. I do need to do some extra gluing of the fabric into the frame to bolster it up a bit, which won't take long at all, if I ever just stop and do it.

Isn't the corduroy fabric nifty?  And inside I decided to go ahead and have fun with animal appliques. No reason for them, I just wanted to. I was glad to find out about the trick of putting scotch tape all over the frame when gluing. It makes the process much less nerve-wracking and saves trying to scrape glue off afterward. I use a special fabric glue from Germany called "Gutermann", which is fairly expensive but has great holding power.

 I have another purse cut out and ready to go--the most beautiful aqua and gold brocade! I hope next week I'll have time to work on it. 

I did finish a tote bag over the weekend, using vintage Raggedy Ann and Andy fabric. It turned out quite well, and I've put it up for sale in my RedLetterDayBags shop, thinking it might make a good trick-or-treat bag to go along with the vintage Raggedy Ann masks I was fortunate enough to acquire at a flea market this summer.

It's SO dry around here!  We haven't had rain since before July 4. I'm not sure, but this may be a weather record. Of course, we're always arid in the summer (once it finally arrives--!) but usually there'll be a few rainy days to break things up. Not this year! The grass is crunchy underfoot and brown. 

Well, not much else to report, so I'll sign off for now.  Off to prayer meeting.  I MUST get some photos of our little church on the hill to show you.  It's so picturesque!
