Let us put by some hour of every day for holy things...

I will not doubt, though all my ships at sea
Come drifting home with broken masts and sails.
I will believe the Hand which never fails,
From seeming evil, worketh good for me.
And though I weep because those sails are tattered,
Still will I cry, while my best hopes lie shattered:
I trust in Thee.
--Ann Kimmel

Although the fig tree shall not blossom, neither shall fruit be in the vines, the labor of the olive shall fail and the fields shall yield no meat, the flock shall be cut off from the fold and there shall be no herd in the stalls, yet I will rejoice in the Lord, I will joy in the God of my salvation. An Unexpected Package Arrives!

Oh, oh, what fun! My husband just brought in this package from the post office. It's addressed to me from my daughter!!  How exciting. I must share the fun!

She's just returned from a business trip to Japan. No doubt she's found treasures. Okay, let's see what we find....

First, a bit of cat fur... No doubt Socks or Samson or Big Kitty or all three were inspecting the box beforehand to be sure it was adequate for the task. Thank you, grand-cats.

And now a delightful children's book! Very much in the style of Elsa Beskow. It's interesting how Madeline finds wonderful children's books (in English) on her travels. I shall enjoy this!

Now a fascinating trove of little wrapped packages is uncovered!
It's like an archaeological dig.

Here's the first little bag's contents--nifty stickers, and two nifty plastic "seals". At first I thought they were tiny pins, but I see now they are little craft embellishments I can attach to something for some extra flair and fun. Delightful!

And next...  a vintage kitty!!!  He shall be added to my collection, which I shall show you in a future post. Look at his pouting little face. Most charming!
What's next???  Let's see... I'm unwrapping....

Oh, yes--she told me about these. A package of special crayons for little children. This will make a treat for my granddaughter to enjoy when she visits. Benita has a nice aunt, does she not?

The final packet is a cunning little plastic bag with darling vintage deer printed all over it! As Madeline often tells me, Japan really rocks cuteness, and I can see she is right.

And look what's inside the bag! A fun little toadstool--I've no idea what it's for, but it's delightful. And a wonderful little vintage-looking plastic dog that's actually a scrub brush! Oh, what fun, what fun! I shall never growl at the task of scrubbing potatoes or carrots again.

Hasn't this been a kick? I'm giving my daughter three cheers: Hip, hip, hooray! Hip, hip, hooray! Hip, hip, hooray!

And now I have officially used up my full allotment (and then some) of both exclamation marks and enthusiastic adjectives, so I'll close for now, get back to my sewing, and leave you to your day. I've got two chapters of Earth's Greatest Day to share with you later this afternoon, so do check back.

I hope your day is off to as great a start as mine is.

  2. Isn't it fun? I opened it and it's just a tiny container. I can put anything in it I please--as long as it's little. If I ever get through with these wedding bags I will (finally!) dust my cats and then take photos of them to share.
