Let us put by some hour of every day for holy things...

I will not doubt, though all my ships at sea
Come drifting home with broken masts and sails.
I will believe the Hand which never fails,
From seeming evil, worketh good for me.
And though I weep because those sails are tattered,
Still will I cry, while my best hopes lie shattered:
I trust in Thee.
--Ann Kimmel

Although the fig tree shall not blossom, neither shall fruit be in the vines, the labor of the olive shall fail and the fields shall yield no meat, the flock shall be cut off from the fold and there shall be no herd in the stalls, yet I will rejoice in the Lord, I will joy in the God of my salvation. Batman's Birthday

A trio of superheroes dropped by the house this morning--or, more accurately, two superheroes and one arch-villain. It was Batman, Bat Girl, and Cat Woman. Batman (aka my son Garland) turns 27 today and was out taking his family for a birthday spin. Bat Girl was delighted to help him open his presents. Batman was pleased to show off his homemade costume.

Birthday goodies included zoo tickets for the family, coffee, candy, and Star Trek novels.

Gar wanted to be sure and clarify he's based his "work in progress", as he calls his costume, on this Batman and not the later versions:

Gar has the day off work and is planning to take Benita--I mean Bat Girl--to a church party tonight. Cat Woman is going to enjoy a quiet evening at home, curled up on a comfy chair, no doubt.

We don't have trick-or-treaters here; we're well off the beaten path. This is only the third time in almost 30 years that we've had any pop in. Garland was the first, when he appeared in his birthday suit in very precipitous fashion at 4:15 in the afternoon of October 31, 1986. Yes, he was born at home, and a jolly good thing it was we'd planned it that way or he'd have been born in the back seat of the car, no doubt. It was a memorable day!

My kids grew up thinking of October 31 as Gar's birthday more than Halloween, and it was a fun family night of home videos, Godzilla movies, and lots of candy.

Well, that was then, this is now:

I've been organizing a 3-day Etsy shop sale, and I've made a treasury to promote it.

The sale is in my MelmacParadise shop and it's 20% off everything, no coupon needed. I'm trying a new application (new to me, that is) called Etsy on Sale, which let me skip the coupon code bit (most shoppers never notice those anyway) and which automatically changed the prices for me so I didn't have to do it item by item. Rather cool! If I get any referrals from other Etsy shops wanting to do the same thing, we both benefit and get credits to be used for future shop sale options.

I should have some crafty stuff to show you shortly... unless more superheroes drop in. So do check back later on!
