Let us put by some hour of every day for holy things...

I will not doubt, though all my ships at sea
Come drifting home with broken masts and sails.
I will believe the Hand which never fails,
From seeming evil, worketh good for me.
And though I weep because those sails are tattered,
Still will I cry, while my best hopes lie shattered:
I trust in Thee.
--Ann Kimmel

Although the fig tree shall not blossom, neither shall fruit be in the vines, the labor of the olive shall fail and the fields shall yield no meat, the flock shall be cut off from the fold and there shall be no herd in the stalls, yet I will rejoice in the Lord, I will joy in the God of my salvation. New Arrival!

Some weeks ago I stumbled across a devastatingly cute vinyl squeak toy dog on Etsy and decided he simply had to come and join my collection. The pup's location was Australia, and so I have had to be patient while waiting for him to arrive via seamail, a new experience for me.

Well, on Saturday, I got the package! He's a wonderful little toy, in very good condition and with a terrific loud squeak.

I thought I'd pose one of my poms beside him for scale--ha ha! I don't know how your pets react to the camera, but if mine always react to being posed as if they were naughty schoolkids waiting outside the principal's office for discipline--stiff, anxious, and frozen at attention. I can relate; I usually look like a deer in the headlights or a snarly old grouch in photographs, myself.

First, Lollia gives it a try...

Then Peppy...
And finally Wickham...

The poms are much cuter than this in person. (In canine?) Oh, well. At least you can see the little toy dog.

This toy dates to the mid 1950s to early 1960s, and was , I'm thinking, probably manufactured by the Edward Mobley Company, though there are no markings to verify this. I have another dog apparently made from the same mold, and he's dated 1964 and has the Edward Mobley mark. Here they are together. The main difference between them is that the golden dog has sleep eyes, and is maybe a tad bigger than the blue and white dog.

Here's the whole crew, cats and dogs together. They're all the same type and general scale, apart from the pink poodle who just tags along for the fun of it. You can see what a good fit my newbie is! It's going to be fun playing with these with the granddaughters when they're old enough to enjoy it.

In my next post I hope to show you some of my latest adventures in knitting. If it's not your thing, you can save reading it for some night when you can't get to sleep! :-)

The little pooch came from Etsy shop, PegsEmporium. Let me show you some of the other cool goodies she has for sale right now.
