Let us put by some hour of every day for holy things...

I will not doubt, though all my ships at sea
Come drifting home with broken masts and sails.
I will believe the Hand which never fails,
From seeming evil, worketh good for me.
And though I weep because those sails are tattered,
Still will I cry, while my best hopes lie shattered:
I trust in Thee.
--Ann Kimmel

Although the fig tree shall not blossom, neither shall fruit be in the vines, the labor of the olive shall fail and the fields shall yield no meat, the flock shall be cut off from the fold and there shall be no herd in the stalls, yet I will rejoice in the Lord, I will joy in the God of my salvation. Michael Jackson Lives!

We all know he's not dead; he just went home. And apparently, home is inside this kitsch 1978 plastic Yap's musical mirror that I was endeavoring to photograph this morning.

Oh, wait...  false alarm... Let me bring this into better focus.

Aw, shucks. It's not Michael Jackson, it's my son Wyatt, popping up unexpectedly in the reflection. Just imagine the price I could be asking for this wind-up musical mirror if it had been haunted by Michael Jackson. (And yes, I've seen allegedly haunted items for sale on Etsy, believe it or not.)

Of course, it should have been a no-brainer that this particular Yap mirror wouldn't have appealed to the King of Pop or whatever he's called--the song here being "You Light Up My Life" of Debbie Boone fame.

Okay, now that I've had my fun, I'll show you the actual listing as I posted it on Etsy this morning.

Actually, these mirrors are pretty cool if you like kitschy plastic tackiness as much as I do. I nabbed them over the weekend; they came from the estate of a woman who, I was told, saved virtually everything.

While researching these, I found a number of other Yap's musical mirrors available and I will have to rein myself in lest I embark on yet another collection of dubious taste, though when I see goodies like these, it's very tempting. (Hey, I don't call this blog "The Sheer Trash Roadshow" for nothing!)

You see what I mean?

Frankly, I'm nearly drooling over the one with the moving ballet dancers as a potential birthday present for my jewelry-loving, soon-to-be-four-year-old granddaughter. She makes an instant beeline for my bedroom to adorn herself from my costume jewelry stash every time she visits. And she's fond of dancing. She's probably a bit young for such an item, I suppose. But one of these days!

  1. I'm not sure which would scare me most jumping out of a mirror.... Michael Jackson or Debbie Boone! That ballet dancer one is awfully cute, as is the unicorn one.... I think my granddaughter would like it! Your grand is so cute, btw!
